The Railway Transverse Axis of Andalucía was planned as an important railway infrastructure, the objective of which was to link the Andalusian autonomous community from east to west, connecting the provinces of Huelva, Sevilla, Málaga, Granada and Almeria by high speed/high performance. Azvi contributed with the construction of five sections.

Archidona Viaduct | Azvi

HSR Line Antequera-Granada | Peña de los Enamorados-Archidona Section

Belonging to the Antequera-Granada High Speed Line, the section is 7,500 m long and required a €111.5 M investment.

Archidona Viaduct, of 3,150 m long, is the most relevant structure and names the whole section. It has the longest hyperstatic span in an european railway viaduct.

In order to protect the infrastructure from the instability of the cuttings slopes, it has been necessary the construction of a 540 m cut-and-cover tunnel to protect the infrastructure from cutting slopes instability. It is a twin-track monotube type with a 95 m² cross section.

Another of the singularities of this work has been the construction of the Train Parking and Overtaking Post (PAET) with a length of 1,897 m and two 821 m sidings.

HSR Line Antequera-Granada | Quejigares-Variante de Loja Stretch

The Quejigares-Variante de Loja section is 3.1 km long and has a budget of 33 million euros.

Two viaducts stand out as singular elements: the viaduct over the river Frío, with a single-deck structure of 10 spans and 374 m long, and the viaduct over the conventional railway line Bobadilla-Granada, with a 12 span sole deck and 580 m long structure.

It is to be highlighted the environmental restoration of deteriorated zones, preparing them geomorphologically and assisting the development of a vegetal cover to protect against the erosion and to facilitate the infrastructure landscape integration in the environment. To do so, more than 1,100 trees (almendro almond tree, acebuche wild olive tree y olivo) and bushes (retama broom, romero rosemary, genista broom, lentisco mastic, rosa canina wild rose y taraje) have been planted.

Other sections

The section is 9.1 km long and has a budget of 23.8 million euros.

To be mentioned the construction of a 103 m long viaduct over the Blanco River and the SE-485 road, 5 flyovers and 2 underpasses to replace cattle trails.

The section is 6.4 km long and the budget is 53.6 million euros.

The most significant elements of the project include two viaducts for crossing the HSR Line Madrid-Sevilla and the conventional railway line (728 and 827 metres respectively) and a viaduct over the Guadalquivir river (860 metres).

The structure over the Guadalquivir river has 19 spans, 4 of which have a variable edge constructed by advance traveller system by successive cantilevers.
