The Madrid-Valladolid High Speed Line was the fundamental element for the railway development of the North and Northwest of Spain. Azvi has participated in its construction with the construction of four sections and a gauge changer. 1.8 km of the 2 km long stretch corresponds to the Arroyo del Valle Viaduct that consists of 27 caisson type piers of variable section, being the higher 80 m. The 132 m ogival arch is to be highlighted. At the time of its construction, this was the third biggest arch in the world and the first of these characteristics constructed in Spain, with a dovel arch built erected and pulled down with cables. The distance between piers (66 m) has required the use of a self-bearing formwork of 153 m in length and 950 tn of weight, that is the longest used in Spain at this moment. The viaduct obtained an Honorary Mention in the III Acueducto de Segovia Aqueduct Award for its technical characteristics, the integration with its surroundings and the environmental measures applied. The stretch is 6.6 km long. The most relevant work is La Fuentecilla tunnel with 1,021 m in length. Furthermore, 2 viaducts, over Vadillo river (142 m) and Hontoria (136 m), and four overpasses has been constructed. The stretch is 11.5 km long, with three viaducts over the Adaja, Cega and Duero rivers. Of particular note is the construction of a Dual Gauge Switcher to permit the connection between the Madrid-Hendaya conventional line and the High Speed Line Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid/Medina del Campo by means of a 1,978 m long electrified track branch. In addition, the Control Building has been constructed. The section is 7.6 km long and has a budget of €21.2 M. One viaduct over Voltoya river of (176 metres in length) and 6 overpasses were constructed. It comprises the station building and the following facilities: platforms, platform connection walkway under the tracks, train workshop, archive, personnel offices, technical building, parking, access roads and heliport.
