The Valladolid-Palencia-León High-Speed Line, inaugurated in 2015, provides continuity to the Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid line, contributing to the social and economic structuring of the areas it crosses.

Villada Assembly Base

The Base has a 9 ha surface and its use is to serve as a logistic center for material unloading, storage and transfer, as well as for the superstructure assembly in the above mentioned stretch which is about 106.4 km long. In addition, the facilities will serve in the future as a High-Speed Rail line Maintenance Base.

The design of the complex underwent changes suggested by Azvi’s engineers in order to improve its functionality and to optimize the space and the facilities, due to the acquired experience constructing many other Bases, as the Albacete one, and the numerous track assembly works carried out.

The base is connected to the Palencia-León conventional railway line and the future High-Speed Rail line. The shunting yard is composed of 4 iberian gauge track and 9 UIC gauge track which link and provide service to the ballast, sleepers, rails, turnouts, general material stockpile zones and the maintenance shops and warehouse.

The rail transfer slab has a total surface of 2,484 m².

A transfer equipment based on a synchronised lifting tackles set was installed to facilitate rail carrier loading and unloading.

20 metal gantries with 23 m span and 7.1 m height gauge were set up. A lifting tackle with electric engine is installed over each gantry, capable of lifting and moving a 1.6 t load, which corresponds to the rail length under its area of influence.

The switch gear transfer slab has a total surface of 3,990 m².

It is composed of three interlaced tracks: two UIC gauge (1,435 mm) and one iberian gauge (1,668 mm).

An equipment set up by two 12.5 + 12.5 t double girder granties, under 20 m span hooks and two rafters was assembled for lifting and carrying out High Speed turnouts preassembly works. Each double girder granty will have about 20 t load capacity under rafter.

The maintenance shop has a total surface of 720 m². The locomotives maintenance and assembly pit is 1.5 m in depth, 50 m long and 4.5 m wide.
