Main challenges

The project is located in a highly karstic area, where indirect dissolution of calcium carbonate in the limestone has created large underground galleries and caves.

Azvi's technical department collaborated with the engineering department for the design of the embankment slab in the karst terrain.

In general, in the 67.7 km stretch between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, more than 60% of the line will be an elevated viaduct, to protect the karst soil, cenotes, caves and underground rivers in the area.
