Description of works

Track and catenary renewal on the Silla-Pobla Llarga section of the C2 line in the Region of Valencia Commuter train network. The aim of the project is to improve installation reliability, increase durability, and reduce incidents and journey times.

The contract includes the renewal of siding tracks in  Silla, Benifaió, Algemesí and Alzira stations, which will be adapted to accommodate 750-metre trains.

Night works

Works are being carried out at night to avoid disrupting the commuter, mid-distance, long-distance, and freight trains that run on this track during the day. Daily performance is 540m of double track (1080m of rail)  and 900 sleepers per night.

Notable actions

Following the replacement of existing rails and sleepers with new ones,  the project now focuses on track bed cleaning.

The ballast is being cleaned with Azvi’s own heavy machinery:

  • Track bed cleaner.
  • Conveyor belt trains
  • Stone train
  • Ballast Hopper trains
  • Tamping machine
  • Profiling machine
  • Stabilizer

Track bed cleaning involves the removal of existing ballast from under the track using heavy machinery. This ballast is in a deteriorated state from the wear and tear of both passenger and freight trains. New ballast is then laid with a hopper train to restore the ballast to pre-established levels. A tamping machine and profiler are used to do this.

In addition, a stabilizer is used to accelerate the compacting process which provides the track frame with stability and limits settling with the passage of trains.
