Construction of a new suburban line with multigauge track (Spanish national and high speed) to link Chamartín station with terminal T4 of Madrid Barajas Airport. The total length of the route is 8.8 km. The project promotes intermodality between all modes of transport and the role of rail in promoting sustainable, safe and integrated mobility. The works consisted of the renovation of the existing trackbed and the quadrupling of the tracks on a 2.7 km section. In addition, a 4.7 km tunnel was built and two new stations (Fuente de la Mora and Valdebebas) were constructed, while two other existing stations (Hortaleza and Barajas) were refurbished. The construction of a cut-and-cover tunnel was also completed. The underground section of the railway access to Madrid-Barajas Airport is 4.7 km long. Two solutions have been used for its construction: 2.9 km of underground tunnel and 1.8 km of cut-and-cover tunnel between screens. The tunnel in mine was built using the so-called Belgian method, or the traditional Madrid method, which consists of excavating its section in 2.5 m long advances. The excavation of the tunnel is carried out by manual procedures, in phases of reduced section, so that as the tunnel is excavated, the shoring is carried out. Fuente de la Mora Station The Fuente de la Mora station was built using 1 m diameter pile diaphragm walls. The approximate surface area ofthe roofwas 1,500 m2. Valdebebas Station The civil works and architecture of the Valdebebas station forms a two-level underground complex. The upper level houses the facilities and the access hall, while the lower level is used for train and platform circulation. Railway Access to Airport Terminal 4 | Madrid Airport – Barajas
