Azvi, in consortium with the Swedish engineering and construction company Nyab, is undertaking its first project in Sweden: the design and construction of the new tram system in Uppsala. This project consolidates the company’s presence in the Nordic market and strengthens its expertise in international railway projects. For Azvi, this project represents its largest tram contract to date and a strategic milestone in its international expansion, consolidating the company’s capacity to manage complex, sustainable transport projects. The €450 million project involves the construction of a 17.6 km double-track route with 22 stops. Developed under a collaborative model, the scope covers the design and construction of the infrastructure, superstructure, electrification, signalling, and communications systems. Carried out in collaboration with the Uppsala Local Council and the Region of Uppsala, the project forms part of a broader plan to launch tram operations by 2029–2030. This plan also includes the acquisition of rolling stock, the design and construction of tram depots and maintenance facilities, and the development of transport hubs which will link the tram to the existing railway network in the north and south of the city.
