The new section of the Granada Metropolitan Metro extends the existing line from Churriana de la Vega to the municipality of Las Gabias, significantly improving mobility in the southwestern area of the Granada Metropolitan Region. With a total length of just over 2 km, this new section contributes to the much-needed expansion of a clean, accessible, and efficient public transport system. The new section of the Granada Metro between Churriana de la Vega and Las Gabias included the design and construction of 2,064 metres of tramway platform: The route design was adapted to the existing streets, minimizing traffic disruption and ensuring seamless integration of the metro into its urban surroundings. In addition to the railway works, the project has led to significant urban improvements in Las Gabias, including the renewal of streets, pavements, green spaces, and bike lanes. The design blends with the agricultural landscape of the Vega de Granada ensuring coexistence between the metro and local traffic. The route runs parallel to the GR-3303 road and crosses the River Dílar via a pergola-type viaduct, improving accessibility between neighbourhoods. Sustainable road surfaces, tree planting, and urban furniture have also been incorporated, strengthening the connection between public transport and the surrounding environment.
