The Iztapalapa Elevated Trolleybus is an electric bus system traversing Mexico City along an 8km long elevated viaduct. This unique transport system, the only one of its kind in the world,  is used by more than 60,000 passengers daily.

Description of the works

Cupisa, the subsidiary of Construcciones Urales, which specializes in the installation of electro-mechanical systems, undertook the construction of the overhead catenary line and the transport’s electro-mechanical installations.

Main Actions

  • Construction of 8 km of catenary.
  • Power supply systems for the catenary through the installation of 2,250kVA traction rectifier substations.
  • Redundant fibre optic network for communication with stations and PLCs.
  • Single Control System for Trolleybuses (SCUT).
