Maintenance, safety and management

Contrast, on the one hand, the A-63 motorway, with good safety and comfort conditions, with the winding and less busy N-634. The terrain through which these roads run is, in general, very rugged, resulting in winding routes in the case of the N-634 and N-634a, and large earthworks, structures and tunnels in the case of the A-63. In the latter, the tunnels of Priañes (616 m) Peñaflor (763 m) and El Fresno (921 m) and the viaducts of the Narcea River and El Regueirón are particularly noteworthy. The altitude varies from less than 250 m near Oviedo to 650 m at the La Espina pass, which is a complicated area in terms of winter maintenance.

For the correct and complete operation of the contract, which has a team of 29 people, adequate road safety conditions must be ensured by carrying out both preventative and corrective work. Furthermore, the management of these roads must be undertaken, which includes responding to requests from citizens who own property nearby, as well as updating all inventories established by MITMOS (Ministry of Transport & Sustainable Mobility).

Main activities

  • Tunnel control and communications.
  • Maintenance of tunnel installations, cleaning of drains, etc…
  • Locating defects, incidents, etc. that are detected along the roads covered by the contract.
  • Winter maintenance.
