The Hornos IV Viaduct is one of the major engineering structures included in the project for the construction, widening and upgrade of more than 360 km of roads in the state of Michoacán. Measuring 204 metres in length, the viaduct comprises five spans and six piers, and stands out for its scale and technical complexity. Its construction involves deep foundation works, with 15 piles per pile cap and rectangular piers reaching a maximum height of 58 metres. The structure has a total surface area of 9,450 m². The Hornos IV Viaduct forms part of a lump-sum construction contract covering the modernisation of major road corridors in the state of Michoacán. The overall scope of works includes the 64.1 km Morelia Bypass, the 25.5 km Uruapan Bypass, the widening of the 56.75 km Pátzcuaro–Uruapan section to a four-lane (A4)-standard, and the modernisation of the 215.48 km Uruapan–Lázaro Cárdenas corridor. The project also includes the grade-separated interchanges at Copándaro, Cápula and Pátzcuaro, comprising six structures with a combined surface area of 2,200 m², as well as 27 additional structures along the main carriageway, covering approximately 9,000 m². It also includes the construction of the El Nispo and Hornos III viaducts. The construction of the Hornos IV Viaduct forms part of a project aimed at improving mobility and connectivity in Michoacán. Overall, the works will strengthen transport links between the region’s main urban centres and the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, improving logistics competitiveness, freight transport and regional economic development.
